Dermabrasion is also called as surgical skin planning process, in which a small portion of the tattoo is sprayed with a solution that freezes the area and then a specialized instrument is used to "sand" causing the skin to peel. Because some bleeding is likely to occur, a dressing is immediately applied to the area.
This abrasive or planing action improves skin contour as a new layer of skin replaces the treated skin. The new skin generally has a smoother appearance.
The procedure is performed by a dermatologic surgeon.
